Plovdiv location map
With an official population of around 350 000, Plovdiv is second largest city in Bulgaria is positioned in central Upper Tharcian Plain in Bulgaria, divided by Bulgaria’s largest river- Maritsa. The heights of the Middle Forest rise to the north- west, whereas the Chirpan heights are to the east. On the south, the Rhodope Mountain range surrounds the plain and rise at around 1300 meters. The six hills (tepeta in Bulgarian) are a significant part of the city’s culture and history and among its best known landmarks.
Located within a two and a half hour drive from the seaside, it is 30 minutes away from three different mountain ranges. Bourgas and the majority of seaside resorts are some 270 km. to the east and the capital city of Sofia is only 150 km. to the east.
Advantageously set in the mid point of the country, the city of Plovdiv is itself a compromising blend of old and new, traditional and modern, metropolitan and at the same time charmingly cozy. The contrast between the bustling, thriving centre of the city with its modern buildings, five star hotels and the antique facades along the main promenade or the cobble stones which pave the old town and lead to the century old theaters, stadiums and ruins is what makes this city exceptional and loved by all who visit it.
